Red Feels As Good As It Looks!
Volunteer Today and Find Out for Yourself

They teach skills that save lives; assist homeless victims of disasters; verify and transmit urgent family messages to military personnel around the globe; and work in community blood drives, health fairs, and youth programs.

If you give the Red Cross just a little of your time, you'll make a world of difference to our community. All you need is the commitment to caring and a little time.... We'll do the rest.

Every community in our country has a Red Cross chapter, each with its own array of services based on the needs of its community. Each Red Cross chapter provides a core of vital services. Here are just a few of the opportunities at the Black River Valley Chapter through which you can help serve the residents of Jefferson and Lewis counties:

Education: The Red Cross trains volunteers to teach courses from first aid and CPR to swimming, lifeguarding, babysitting and HIV/AIDS education.

Disaster Services: The Red Cross trains people to help the homeless victims of local and national disasters. Workers staff emergency shelters, providing victims with food and a place to sleep as well as providing other emergency assistance based upon disaster-caused need. Disaster Services offers a unique opportunity for the committed volunteer to move beyond the local community to assist with major national disasters wherever they occur.

Casework: Red Cross volunteers assist members of the military and their families around the globe by maintaining a vital, 24-hour-a-day emergency verification and communications network.

Leadership: If you are challenged to be a leader, the chapter can use your expertise with opportunities in planning, management, financial development, and volunteer recruitment and recognition.

HIV/AIDS Services: Red Cross volunteers receive training in facts, psychosocial and cultural issues, values, attitudes, and beliefs surrounding the HIV/AIDS education in the community.

Youth Workers: The Red Cross is always looking for the leaders of tomorrow and provides opportunities for youth in all program areas.
